http://gpnfest.frontgatetickets.com/index.phpWe would like to give our immense thanks to everybody who supported us in the 2012 Boston Rock 'n' Roll Rumble, especially the judges, Anngelle Wood, and the entire staff at TT The Bears. It was a surprise and an honor to be invited to play in the first place and we never expected to take home the crown. But more important than winning was the chance to re-connect with the Boston music scene that I once was so immersed in and have been on the outskirts of now for some time. Seeing old friends, meeting new ones and genuinely celebrating the rich musical diversity that Boston has to offer is what the Rumble is all about. After 20 plus years of playing and traveling I say in all honesty that I truly feel that there is no city out there with such a condensed group of talent. I am proud to be a product of Boston and plan to continue to be a part of its artistic culture for the rest of my career.
The past few weeks have been bittersweet. We have lost some great musicians as well as dear friends along the way. We started the semi-finals with the weight of Scott Ricciuti's untimely death, an extremely talented songwriter who was just about to record his best material with Perfect Trainwreck bassman Jeremy Curtis on board as producer. I only knew Scott for a short time but was lucky enough to make a little noise with him during one of his last performances. It was thankfully recorded, so keep an ear out for that.
Then there was the passing of the late great Levon Helm that shook our souls the day before the finals. He is a legend and a great friend for a long time. We were extremely fortunate to play many of the Midnight Rambles at his home in Woodstock, NY as well as share a bill with him at other venues. We even recorded the Spend It All record together in Boston several years ago. His death leaves a void in American music that could never be filled and will never be forgotten. I believe our success in the Rumble is directly related to the spirit he forged in each of us.
Check out Boston Emissions tonight on WZLX (100.7 FM) at 10 PM. I will be plucking guitar and chewing the fat with Jeremy and Anngelle. Also come see me open for another of his influences, James McMurtry, at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH on Sunday, April 29th
See you all down the road,
Bow Thayer & Perfect Trainwreck
I think we're gonna start calling Chris "McCandy", it's got a ring to it.
If you have not heard already, you will be informed that the SnowMont Festival that was to be held at Killington has been cancelled. Although Tweed River Winter Carnival was to be lumped into the promotion for SnowMont, we are pleased to tell you that we are in no way even considering a cancellation. TWEED RIVER MUSIC CARNIVAL IS STILL ON!!!!! Although now we may have to call it "The March Madness MeltDown Festival".
Pico Ski Resort may even have to shut down the lifts before the music starts on Friday March 23rd but that will not stop us either. We have made it through the floods of Irene and an unforgiving winter so these cancellations don't faze us a bit. It just fuels our commitment to providing a great weekend of music and fun that we all need now. Even if the lifts are not spinning Pico is a great place. The experience of hiking up and skiing down in solitude on corn snow is a past time many locals look forward to. If the day is nice (and we plan on it being gorgeous), then it will be one hell of a deck party. So get all your friends and family together and come on down to Pico Mountain on March 23 and 24 and have some high altitude spring recreation and get down with some fabulous music.
The glories of spring are right around the corner and old man winter finally decided to pay us a visit with a generous dumping of the white stuff… we will take it!
March is notorious for its snow storms up here in Vermont and it makes for excellent high terrain activity--so don't put away your snow shoes, snowboards, skis, and sleds yet. In fact tune ‘em up and get your tickets for the Tweed River Winter Carnival being held at Pico Mountain Ski Resort on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24.
The success of the summer Tweed Festivals has inspired us to keep the ball rolling right into the winter/spring seasons and this sure to be a grand time.
SCHEDULE
Kicking off on Friday night in the upstairs, Last Run Lounge in a cozy old school Vermont ski lodge will be original and local stylings of FlowtingBridge, the original old time stomp of Goldtown, and the serious rockings of Burlington's Waylon Speed. You know that Perfect Trainwreck will be making it to the stage as well.
Saturday is expected to be a bright and warm, perfectly sunny spring day for green mountain euphoria and high terrain adventure. Plan on skiing, snowboarding, or join the guided snowshoe hike out to Coaches backcountry kitchen for a lunch fit for a king… or sit in the lounge around the field stone fireplace drinking hot toddies.
Music will kick off at around 1:30 with the acoustic sounds of The Holy Plow and the groovy bluegrass sounds of The Crunchy Western Boys, followed by Scott Ricutti and Pistol Whipped at 5pm. Music will be FREE during the afternoon and apres ski and then we will turn the lower main room of the lodge into a concert hall.
The evening begins with Township warming the stage for Tweed favorite and Boston's own Andrea Gillis. Next White Dynamite will bring their brand of garage rock, featuring Allston Rock City’s finest action figures, these guys are sure to entertain. The night will close with Bow Thayer & Perfect Trainwreck rocking some NEW TUNES from the album currently being recorded.
There is limited capacity for this event so get tickets at tweedrivermusicfestival.com and keep visiting the sites for more info and additional events to be announced. We look forward to seeing you all there! Hope for snow… then sun!
We are hunkering down for the winter and working diligently on out new record to follow up the 2010 release Bottom of the Sky. What would be better than working the songs up live at our favorite watering hole where all this music first started?
It just makes sense to keep things local and not stray to far from the studio. With everyone in the band insanely busy the full band will not be there every Friday but Bow will be in some form or another with many friends and surprise guests sitting in. There is no cover and inexpensive rooms available at the Inn, we will also be doing our traditional New Year's Eve show there which may require some reservations and a small cover.
This is also how we are funding our recording costs. We will be working with Grammy winning Justin Guip again and getting basic tracks at Mad Oak studios in Boston as well as tracking hear in Vermont at The Woodshed.
We will have more info on what to expect on what dates on the web site So please come and have a great time and help us out with what is sure to be our best effort yet.
We proudly contributed "Good Time To Holler" to this Hurricane Irene benefit compilation...
Bluebird Promotions and Malletts Bay Records (Colchester, VT) just released an 18-track compilation CD representing 15 singer/songwriters to benefit Hurricane Irene victims. Various artists that either live in Vermont or have a connection to Vermont donated songs for the cause. Profits will be given to Vermont’s Red Cross. The songs were written well before Irene hit and are not about hurricanes, although Bow Thayer’s Good Time To Holler sounds like it could have been! Irene raised havoc with our little state, but Vermonters are doing what they have always done – they are gathering together to help each other rebuild and move on. The CD is dedicated to the indomitable spirit of the people of Vermont.
