Bow Thayer's work on display at the Filling Station show are field paintings done mostly on location while traveling with family or on tour playing music. These pieces have been dragged around a bit, stowed in suitcases and guitar cases on and off airplanes and rental cars. In short, they are studies of the environment Thayer was in at the time and practices in “keeping the lenses fresh” for more visionary work to be done in the studio. The larger oil painting on the far wall (not currently for sale or shown below) is a reflection of that work.
The smaller pieces are all done in acrylic with a protective varnish and placed in handmade frames (also constructed by Thayer) that were sourced from salvaged local hardwoods.
